- Eunice Kathleen Waymon, known as Nina Simone, was an American singer, songwriter, pianist and civil rights activist.
- Her music spanned a variety of styles, including classical, folk, gospel, blues, jazz, R&B and pop.
- She was the first female artist to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.
- Simone has been a major inspiration to soul, jazz and R&B artists.
- She used her platform for civil rights activism, including her iconic song "Mississippi Goddam" in response to the Medgar Evers assassination and the Birmingham church bombing.
