Tommy Steele - Short Biography


- Sir Thomas Hicks, better known as Tommy Steele, is an English artist and rock and roll star, considered the first youth idol in Britain.


- Steele was discovered at 2i's Coffee Bar in Soho, London, and recorded a series of hit singles, including "Rock with the Caveman" (1956) and "Singing the Blues" (1957).


- His rise to fame was the subject of a dramatic film, The Tommy Steele Story (1957), and he went on to star in other musical films, including The Duke Wore Jeans (1958) and Tommy the Toreador (1959).


- By the 1960s, Steele had become a complete artist,
