🎶 Oh! You Pretty Things song analysis
The protagonist wakes up and sees strange things happening outside, like a crack in the sky and the arrival of strangers. He thinks of a better world where people think more deeply about life. The song urges people to make way for a new group called Homo Superior, who will replace humanity as the dominant species. The repeated chorus tells the pretty things (perhaps a reference to the younger generation) that they are driving their parents crazy and must make way for this new group.

"Oh You Pretty Things" is a song written by the legendary English singer-songwriter David Bowie, released on his 1971 album "Hunky Dory". It was the first song he wrote for the album and is considered one of his best known and most popular songs. Bowie recorded a demo of the song before giving it to Herman's Hermits singer Peter Noone, who decided to release it as his first solo single. The version of the song released by Noone had structural and lyrical differences from Bowie's later version, including production by Mickie Most. The single was released in April 1971 as "Oh! You Pretty Thing" and reached number 12 in the UK, becoming Bowie's biggest hit as a songwriter since his own single, "Space Oddity," two years earlier. The song showcases Bowie's unique sound, playing piano on the recording, and its catchy melody and thought-provoking lyrics.
