George Michael is a British singer, songwriter and producer who has achieved meteoric success, selling over 125 million records worldwide and having seven number one songs on the UK Singles Chart and eight on the US Billboard Hot 100. He has won numerous awards, including two Grammys, three Brit Awards, three American Music Awards, twelve Billboard Music Awards and four MTV Video Music Awards. He was ranked 45th on Billboard's "Greatest Hot 100 Artists of All Time" and was the most popular artist on UK radio from 1984 to 2004.

The song "Outside" was released by English singer-songwriter George Michael on October 19, 1998. It is the first single from his first Best Of album entitled Ladies & Gentlemen: The Best of George Michael (1998) and was released by Epic Records. "Outside" reached number two on the UK Singles Chart, making it Michael's most recent hit in the UK. The song had more success in Greece, Hungary and Spain, where it topped the charts. The accompanying video, directed by Vaughan Arnell, shows couples of different sexual orientations engaging in public displays of affection, while Michael, dressed as a police officer, dances in a public toilet. The video was seen as a reference to his arrest for vagrancy in April 1998.
