Paint It Black is a song by the Rolling Stones, written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. It was released as a single on May 7, 1966, then included in the album Aftermath, released on April 15 of the same year.

The song was written during the mourning period of Brian Jones, who died on July 3, 1969. The music and lyrics are by Jagger, but Richards contributed to the arrangement. The song was recorded on March 8, 1966 at RCA Studios in Hollywood.

The title refers to the color black, used in many cultures to represent death. Jagger stated that the song was a reflection on Jones' death and his own impending death. The song reached number one on the charts in the United Kingdom and the United States.
