"Pride and Joy" is a single by Marvin Gaye released in 1963 on the Tamla label. Co-written by William "Mickey" Stevenson, Gaye and Norman Whitfield, and produced by Stevenson, the song was created as a tribute to Anna Gordy, Gaye's girlfriend at the time. The album version of the single, which appeared on Gaye's second album, "That Stubborn Kinda Fellow," was significantly different from the gospel-tinged single version, featuring a more jazz-like effect. "Pride and Joy" became Gaye's first top ten pop single, reaching number ten on the chart and nearly topping the R&B singles chart, reaching number two.
