The Clash - Short Biography

- The Clash was an English punk rock band formed in London in 1976.
- They were known as "The Only Band That Matters".
- They incorporated elements of a variety of genres, including reggae, dub, funk, ska and rockabilly.
- The four core members of the band were Joe Strummer (lead singer and rhythm guitarist), Mick Jones (lead guitarist and vocalist), Paul Simonon (bassist) and Nicky "Topper" Headon (drummer).
- The Clash contributed to the post-punk and new wave movements in the wake of punk.

- "Rock the Casbah" is a song by English punk rock band The Clash, released in 1982.
- The song was released as the second single from their fifth album, Combat Rock.
- It peaked at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States (their only top ten single in the United States) and, along with the track "Mustapha Dance", it also reached number eight on the dance chart.
- The song was written by the band's drummer, Topper Headon, from a piano part he had been playing with.
- Finding himself in the studio without his three companions, Headon gradually recorded the drum, piano and bass parts.
