The song is about the importance of having someone to rely on, a friend who understands when you feel lost. The protagonist had a dream in which people were playing games in the dark wearing masks, but they were screaming for someone to tell them that they would help them. The chorus encourages the protagonist to tell his partner that they will always be there for each other, naturally. The bridge reminds the protagonist to believe in himself and that he is a shining star.

"Say You, Say Me" is a hit song written and recorded by American singer and songwriter Lionel Richie. The song was used in the movie White Nights and reached number one in the United States when it was released in December 1985. It also became Richie's ninth number one on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. However, the song was not included on the film's soundtrack album because Motown did not want Richie's first single after the huge success of his 1983 album Can't Slow Down to appear on another label. Nevertheless, the song was later included on Richie's 1986 album Dancing on the Ceiling. The song is an emotional ballad that showcases Richie's powerful voice and soulful melodies.
