Alice Cooper is an American rock band formed in 1968 in Phoenix, Arizona. The band is known for its provocative style, which combines elements of rock 'n' roll, glam rock and hard rock. "School's Out" is a song by the band Alice Cooper, released as a single in 1972. The song was written by singer Alice Cooper and guitarist Glen Buxton. It became one of the band's biggest hits, reaching number two on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States and number one in the UK.

The song was inspired by the May 1968 riots in France. Hearing the news on the radio, Alice Cooper was struck by the similarity between the events in France and those taking place in his own country. The May 1968 riots had been sparked by student anger at the government and the establishment. American students were also angry at the government and the establishment, and Alice Cooper thought that "School's Out" could be their anthem.

The song was recorded in March 1972 and released as a single in May of that year. It was an immediate hit, reaching number two on the Billboard Hot 100, and in Britain it was number one for three weeks. "School's Out" became one of Alice Cooper's biggest hits and one of the most famous hard rock songs of all time.
