Earth, Wind & Fire - Short Biography

Earth, Wind & Fire is an iconic American music group founded in 1969 in Chicago by Maurice White. Influential in the fields of R&B, funk, soul and disco, the group has enjoyed great commercial and critical success. Their unique sound blends jazz, R&B, soul, gospel and African music.

After several lineup changes, key members included Verdine White, Philip Bailey, Ralph Johnson, Larry Dunn, Al McKay and Fred White. Their breakthrough came in 1975 with the album "That's the Way of the World" and the single "Shining Star". Other hits include "Sing a Song," "Fantasy" and "September.

The band is known for its spectacular stage performances and has received numerous awards, including six Grammy Awards and four American Music Awards. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000 and received Kennedy Center Honors in 2019. Despite membership changes and the loss of key figures, Earth, Wind & Fire continues to perform and record music.
