- Carlos Humberto Santana Barragán is an American guitarist who rose to fame in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
- Santana pioneered a fusion of Latin American rock and jazz.
- His music is characterized by blues-based melodic lines and Latin American and African rhythms.
- He experienced a resurgence in popularity and critical recognition in the late 1990s.
- Rolling Stone magazine ranked him 20th on its list of the 100 greatest guitarists. He has won 10 Grammy Awards and three Latin Grammy Awards, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.

The song "Smooth" is a collaboration between the American rock band Santana and Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty. It was released on June 15, 1999 as the first single from Santana's studio album "Supernatural". The song was written by Itaal Shur and Rob Thomas, with the latter rewriting the original melody and lyrics by Shur. It was produced by Matt Serletic.
