"Summer Nights" is a song from "5150", a rock album by the American band Van Halen, released on March 24, 1986 by Warner Bros. Records. The album marked the debut of singer Sammy Hagar, replacing David Lee Roth, and was named after the home studio of the band's guitarist, Eddie Van Halen, also known as 5150. The name itself was derived from a term used by California law enforcement to refer to a mentally ill person. The album was a massive success, reaching number one on the Billboard 200, surpassing the band's previous album, "1984," which reached number two. The band also beat Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album, on which Eddie Van Halen had made a guest appearance.
