Super Freak is a song by Rick James, released in 1981. It was written in collaboration with James' bassist, Levi Stubbs. The song was a big hit, reaching number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified platinum.

Super Freak was inspired by an encounter James had with a woman in a Los Angeles club. The woman was dressed provocatively and seemed very comfortable with her body. James was immediately attracted to her and began talking to her. The woman told him that she was a dancer and that she did private shows for wealthy men. James was intrigued and asked the woman if she would do a show for him. The woman agreed and James was extremely impressed with her talent.

After they finished their conversation, James went to Stubbs and told him what had happened. Both men were inspired by the woman and began writing the song. James wanted the song to be an ode to the woman he had met and all the women who were like her. He wanted the song to be an ode to sexual freedom and freedom of expression.

Super Freak was an immediate success. The song was covered by many artists, including Madonna, MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice. The song became a rap and R and B classic and is still popular today.
