The protagonist wakes up in someone's kitchen in Houston and notices that the ceiling is dripping with sweat. He then goes back to Charlotte and falls in love with a girl who doesn't love him back because she doesn't believe him. He then goes to Tampa to find answers, but doesn't find any, and the girl he was with also doesn't come. So, he goes to Swannanoa where nobody knows him and gets very lonely, forcing him to leave. He realizes that when he faced death, it was actually his father and if he had known this, he wouldn't have been afraid or tried to fool anyone.
