The song Sweet Jane is a song by the American rock band The Velvet Underground. It was written by singer and guitarist Lou Reed and included on their third album, Loaded, released in 1970.

The song is an ode to Jane, a former girlfriend of Reed who was a junkie. Reed stated that the song was an attempt to describe the life of a junkie, from the perspective of someone who loves her. The song was recorded in two sessions, one in May 1970 and another in October of the same year. The version released on the album is the second one, recorded in October.

The Velvet Underground's guitarist, Sterling Morrison, said the song was one of his favorites of the band. Morrison also said that the song was one of the most difficult to play live, as it required perfect precision and coordination between the musicians.

The song has been covered by many artists, including Cowboy Junkies, Phish, Ryan Adams, Neil Young and Patti Smith.
