When he gets to New York, his uncle gets shot and killed while the protagonist is on his way there. Despite this, he stays in New York and works hard. He eventually goes back to Ireland for his father's funeral, but then returns to New York, where he has been for the past 22 years as a law enforcement officer, never forgetting his home.
