"The Tide is High" is a rocksteady song written by John Holt and originally performed by the Jamaican band The Paragons, of which Holt was the lead singer. The song gained worldwide notoriety when the American band Blondie covered it in 1980, giving it a number one hit in the US and UK. Over the years, the song has been covered by several other artists, including the British band Atomic Kitten, who topped the UK singles chart with their 2002 version. Canadian rapper Kardinal Offishall also created his interpretation of the song, which was a hit in 2008.
