- The Winner Takes It All is a pop song by the Swedish band ABBA.
- The song is the first single from the album Super Trouper of the group and was released on July 21, 1980.
- It is a ballad about the end of a love story.
- The song was written by Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, and sung mainly by Agnetha Fältskog.
- The lyrics of the song reflect Björn and Agnetha's divorce in 1979, as does the song "When All Is Said and Done" which details the divorce of Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Benny Andersson.
- Björn Ulvaeus denies any connection between his own divorce and the song, stating that the song is about "the experience of a divorce but it's a fiction. There were no winners or losers in our case. A lot of people think it's based on reality but it's not.
- In a 1999 poll for Channel Five, The Winner Takes It All was voted ABBA's favorite song in the UK.
