"There's a Kind of Hush" is a beloved song originally written by Les Reed and Geoff Stephens. It was first recorded by Stephens' group, The New Vaudeville Band, in 1967 as a neo-British music hall song. While this version of the song was successful in Australia and South Africa, it was the almost simultaneous cover by Herman's Hermits that gained popularity in the rest of the world. The song tells the story of the silence between two people in love and has been cherished by fans for decades. In 1976, the Carpenters released their own rendition of the song, which again topped the charts. "There's a Kind of Hush" remains a beloved song that speaks to the power of love and the emotions it can evoke.
