The Slits are an English punk rock band formed in 1976. Their song "Typical Girls" was released as a single in 1979.

The band was composed of three girls: Ari Up, Palmolive and Viv Albertine. Their music was aggressive and experimental, and they were considered one of the first female punk rock bands. Their song "Typical Girls" was a critique of gender stereotypes. It was written by Albertine and Up, and it was about the pressure women were under to be "typical".

The single was a critical success, but it did not have much commercial success. The group broke up in 1982, but they have reunited several times since then. "Typical Girls" is considered one of their best songs, and it has been covered by many artists.
