The protagonist is with his romantic partner, and they both agree that they want to be together and improve themselves. However, a voice in his head (the SQUIP) tells him that he needs to upgrade himself even more. Later, his friend Jake tries to convince his love interest Christine to be each other's upgrade instead of playing their usual roles. Other characters join in and express their desire to break away from people's expectations of them.
