What is Velha Chica about?
🎶 Velha Chica song analysis
The song tells the story of an old woman named Chica who used to sell glue and ginger. She would wash the clothes of an important boss in the afternoon. The children in the school would ask her why they were poor and suffering, but Chica would tell them not to talk about politics. Chica knew the reason for their suffering but kept it to herself. As time passed, Chica aged and only built a small house with a zinc roof. Now, when asked about politics, she only says that when she dies, she wants to see Angola and the world in peace.
