Bob Dylan's song "Visions of Johanna" was released in 1966 on the album "Blonde on Blonde". The song is considered one of Dylan's greatest, and was ranked by Rolling Stone at #11 on its list of the 500 greatest songs of all time. The song is a melancholy ballad that depicts loneliness and despair, and focuses on a couple separated by distance. Dylan wrote the song in February 1966, after spending several nights walking the streets of New York. According to his biographer Robert Shelton, the song was inspired by a friend of his, the poet Joanne Kyger.
