Rod Stewart released the song "Young Turks" in 1981. It appears on his album Tonight I'm Yours. The song has a synthpop and new wave sound, influenced by bands such as Devo. The term "Young Turks" comes from the early 20th century secular nationalist reformist party of the same name and refers to a young rebel who acts against the norms of society. Despite the song's title, the phrase "Young Turks" is never heard in the song, and the chorus instead focuses on the phrase "Young Hearts, Be Free, Tonight," causing the song to be often misidentified as "Young Hearts" or "Young Hearts Be Free."
