The song was a big hit, reaching number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and number four on the UK Singles Chart. Since then, many artists have covered the song, including country music singer Waylon Jennings, who won a Grammy in 1969, and Donna Summer, who arranged it into a disco song in 1978 that topped the Billboard Hot 100.
