Prince Rogers Nelson (1958-2016) was an American singer-songwriter, musician, and producer widely regarded as one of the greatest of his generation. Known for his flamboyant, androgynous personality and wide vocal range, Prince self-produced his albums and pioneered the Minneapolis sound, which incorporates a variety of styles including funk, R&B, rock, new wave, soul, synth-pop, pop, jazz and hip hop.

"Soft and Wet" is a song performed by the American musician Prince. It is his first solo single, released on June 7, 1978, his 20th birthday, from his first album, For You. The song features drums, bass guitar and synthesizers, and the lyrics were co-written by Chris Moon, the producer-songwriter-engineer who discovered Prince in Minneapolis. The song was released in Barbados, South Africa and the United States on Warner Bros. Records. There is also a promotional, non-sales version of the 7" vinyl single, with a mono and stereo version of the song. On November 25, 1978, the song peaked at number 92 on the Billboard Hot 100, after two weeks on the chart.
