The protagonist remembers a person who believed that prayer could solicit the Lord, but he does not agree. He asks for sanctuary and asylum, feeling overwhelmed by the difficulties of life, including the Man who knocks on his door. The Doors - Short Biography

The Doors were an influential and controversial American rock band formed in 1965 in Los Angeles. Led by singer Jim Morrison and featuring keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger and drummer John Densmore, the band played a major role in the counterculture of the 1960s.

This track is the title track of the album "The Soft Parade", the fourth studio album by the American rock band The Doors, released on July 18, 1969 by Elektra Records. The recording of the album took place after an exhausting tour that left the band little time to compose new material. The producer, Paul A. Rothchild, recommended a departure from the band's first three albums by developing a fuller sound and incorporating brass and string arrangements provided by Paul Harris. Vocalist Jim Morrison is less involved in the album and focuses on his poetry and personal problems, allowing guitarist Robby Krieger to expand his own creativity.
