The Doors - Short Biography

The Doors were an influential and controversial American rock band formed in 1965 in Los Angeles. Led by singer Jim Morrison and featuring keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger and drummer John Densmore, the band played a major role in the counterculture of the 1960s.

"Shaman's Blues" appears on the album "The Soft Parade," the fourth studio album by the American rock band The Doors. Released on July 18, 1969 by Elektra Records, most of the album was recorded after a grueling tour that left the band little time to write new material. Producer Paul A. Rothchild recommended a complete departure from the band's first three albums, which resulted in the development of a fuller sound by incorporating brass and string arrangements provided by Paul Harris. Singer Jim Morrison, dealing with personal issues and focusing more on his poetry, was less involved in the writing process, allowing guitarist Robby Krieger to increase his creative output.
