The Doors were an influential and controversial American rock band formed in 1965 in Los Angeles. Led by singer Jim Morrison and featuring keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger and drummer John Densmore, the band played a major role in the counterculture of the 1960s.

The single was a big hit, peaking at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reaching the top ten on the Cash Box charts. The song was co-written by Jim Morrison and Robby Krieger, although credit was given to the entire band. The B-side of the single is "Unhappy Girl".
