"Sisters Are Doin' It for Themselves" is a powerful song that champions feminism and women's independence. It was recorded by the British pop duo Eurythmics and American singer Aretha Franklin. Eurythmics members Annie Lennox and David A. Stewart wrote the song, which appears on both the "Be Yourself Tonight" album and Franklin's "Who's Zoomin' Who?" Eurythmics, originally scheduled to perform with Tina Turner, flew to Detroit and recorded with Franklin. The song features three of Tom Petty's Heartbreakers and bassist Nathan East.
